Home Safety Tips for the Holiday Season

‘Tis the season for sparkling lights, cozy fires and delicious treats. It’s the time of year for your little one to experience the wonderful sights, sounds and smells of holidays - perhaps for the very first time! This month we share some tips to help make your home safer for those “tiny tots with their eyes all aglow” as you celebrate this winter.

Fireplace Safety

As the weather gets colder and people start using their fireplaces, it is important to protect small children with a fireplace guard. According to safekids.org, every day, 3 children under the age of 6 go to the Emergency Room for burns related to fireplaces, including gas fireplaces.

Our Mayfair Converta 3 in 1 Playpen Gate can be used as a barrier around most fireplaces to help keep children safer. The gate is easy to install and made from durable, sturdy metal. With 6 panels (with extra panels available for purchase too!) the gate can be set up in a variety of configurations  - room divider, playpen or gate-  and easily folds away when not in use.

Tree Safety

Any one of the gates in our Converta and Adapta lines are a great solution during the holidays when Christmas trees go up. This gate can be set up around the base of the tree to prevent accidental tipping and to keep little hands (and pets!) from reaching ornaments and ever-so-enticing presents.

Kitchen Safety

One of the best parts of the holidays is sharing special meals with family and friends. As your family spends more time in the kitchen this season make sure to child proof this area to protect little ones.

It is always important to keep a close eye on children whenever stovetops and ovens are in use.

We have an array of products to help add peace of mind while cooking and entertaining are underway:

  • Stove and Oven Knob Covers - help stop little ones from turning knobs on and off around gas and electric stoves and ovens.

  • Refrigerator latches prevent children from opening fridges and freezers to help avoid accidents, spills and food spoilage.

  • Cabinet and drawer locks are essential for kitchen safety. Consider making one cabinet in the kitchen “child friendly.”
You can fill a designated cabinet with Tupperware and other non-breakable items to occupy little ones while you cook. For all other cabinets and drawers use safety locks to prevent pinched fingers and other accidents.

Make sure to keep knives and breakables up high and out of reach of little ones, and always keep a watchful eye whenever your tots are in the kitchen.

With the proper precautions put in place you and yours can enjoy a happy, healthy – and safe- holiday season! To learn more about Dreambaby safety products visit www.dreambaby.com
